An organization can optionally provide specific descriptions for each level of the scale being used to assess the respective learning targets.

Adding these clarifies what is expected to demonstrate a particular level of a specific learning target and can help ensure learning targets are assessed by different people through the same criteria lens.

Notable Applications

Rubrics

When an organization sets up and uses Headrush with respective product and process rubrics as learning targets, adding custom descriptors more precisely informs a learner of what is expected and reinforces the transferrable skill of discerning self-assessment.

Guest Assessors

Should you utilize Headrush's guest assessor feature, adding custom descriptors mitigates confusion and improves clarity of what is to be considered for those external audiences who may not have an everyday appreciation of assessing students.

How to setup customized scale descriptors per learning target?

Headrush accounts with the Admin role can add custom descriptors by editing individual learning targets -or- in bulk via the spreadsheet import of learning targets.

Add/Edit within the App via Admin

Add/Edit in Bulk via Spreadsheet

Admin accounts can bulk import learning target descriptors by importing a spreadsheet that includes columns to the right of the last group description. Each column represents the respective level of the associated assessment scale with that learning target set.

This is a multistep process, but it is straightforward to accomplish:

  1. Import or create a learning target set in Headrush.

  2. Setup/select a scale to associate with that learning target set.

  3. Export that learning target set.

  4. Open the exported target set.

  5. Add the respective descriptors for each target/row in the respective columns located to the right of the target description.

  6. Export the newly updated sheet that includes the descriptors as a CSV file.

  7. Go back to Headrush > Admin > Learning Targets > Import Learning Descriptors

  8. Select the CSV file you just created and follow the prompts that follow.

In the example below, notice columns I - L of the spreadsheet. The custom target scale descriptors would be populated in the respective column row combination for each target. If left empty, Headrush will keep empty for that given target.
