What are Variants?
Put simply, variants are related versions of a task assigned to different learners.
➡️ Here's a scenario: "I gave a task to students that is due next week. But one student is sick, and needs extra time to complete the task."
➡️ Or another: "I made a common task for groups, but each group will do a slightly different activity and I want to capture those differences without creating separate tasks I need to track."
Each of these scenarios creates a burden for teachers and facilitators to track and manage learners: extra details to remember, explain, and document.
Headrush simplifies the complexity. Variants are automatically grouped with the Task they came from, so it's easy to keep track of what learners are doing.
Variants are:
Part of a task.
Created by selecting learners.
Different from the original task in any way.
Grouped together when viewing status.
Create Variants
Start from a Module Task Board.
Create or Open any task.
Click + Variant.
Headrush will open the learner selector. Select the learners for the variant.
Click Save.
A sidebar will appear next to the Task, with the Variant selected.
Make changes to the Task Details.
Headrush will indicate what has changed between the Variant and the original task.
Manage Variants
In Headrush, Tasks with Variants are shown with a symbol:
Move the mouse pointer over the symbol to see a popup card with details about the variant. Click the card to open the variant. Variants always appear in the task they were created from.
Tracking Student Progress on Variants
On both Task and Task Board Evidence views, Headrush groups status information for Variants. Facilitators can click into Variants to see details. On Evidence view, Variants are shown in the same column as the Task:
In Task Evidence view, Headrush lists all learners from all Variants by default. Unselect "Show all learners" to see only learners selected on a Variant in Status or List views:
